About PMF Designs
Exquisite design and engineering
We specialise in working with our clients to create
truly unique pieces: bespoke metal furniture for
home and garden; pergolas; sculptures; metal home
accessories. We work in a range of styles, from the
very traditional to super modern and contemporary.
Browse our gallery for some inspiration - there are
a number of projects we've completed for past
clients. If you already have an idea of what you
want, use the form to get in touch. It would be
really helpful if you can include: will the piece be
for indoor or outdoor use? Do you have an idea of
finish or base material? What will it be used for?
If you can include a rough sketch that would be even
better!25 years of bespoke, British design and
metalcraft: a family company
John Pomfrey began Pomfrey Metal Fabrications in 1991, taking over a workshop on the very edge of the Sussex coast. Over the years the business grew and evolved two arms: PMF Designs - creating furniture and other bespoke metalwork pieces; and PMF Metalwork - focussing on engineering and metalwork fabrication.
John was apprenticed at the Phoenix Ironworks in
Lewes, and worked on a wide range of both large and
small engineering projects throughout his career.
His son Matthew began working with him in 2002, and
between them they have created a thriving
business which meets the needs of a huge variety of
clients. John took a step back from the day to day
in 2012, with Matt carrying on PMF with his new
team.

Our capabilities: from precise
engineering, to hand forged metalwork
If you're looking for something more engineering
based, pop over to our other site, PMF Metalwork,
to discover our capabilities. For a general idea,
our guillotine and brake press
accommodate material up to 3m long, and 6mm thick.
We can roll material 6mm thick, up to 1.5m
long, as well as milling and turning small
machined parts. A recent addition to the workshop is
a fully functioning forge, giving us blacksmithing
capabilities. We make railings, balustrades, we
work on ships and boats, we work on sets for the
creative arts. Splashbacks, cooker hood chimneys,
sinks and worktops. If it's metal, we can probably
make it. Give us a call to talk about your project -
we offer free design consultation and advice as part
of our service. We're in the workshop till from
7.30-5pm 01273 517333.
